Terrain Vague – Piotr Makowski
Antoine Levi Gallery is pleased to present the first solo show in Paris by Polish artist Piotr Makowski.
The works presented for this exhibition – four large canvases, a drawing and a video – are a compendium of the artist’s research over the past five years. Made and conceived in the gallery space, the ink on canvas works show each area of color and each single mark as the basis upon which Makowski builds his paintings and drawings.
Always interested in updating the avant-garde painting of the ’900, for years the artist has been leading a continous investigation on geometric shapes. In all of his works, these are constantly taken apart and reconstructed, in order to become a preparatory ground for future accomplishments.
In the same way, the works of Terrain Vague respond to these requests and unfold like a terse discourse on chromatism and two-dimensionality, on overlappings of forms and coloristic transparencies.
Piotr Makowski (1985) lives and works in Gdynia (Poland). He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk and in Architecture at the University of Technology, and has participated in several exhibitions including Young Painters from Gda?sk–2011, at the “Historic Museum Gdansk”, in 2011; the Exhibition of works of Artistic Journey Hestia 2011 National Art Gallery in Sopot, Poland, and in 2012 at the personal Malarska Machinima Klubu Zak Gallery in Gdansk
