Archives “Biennale de Paris (1985)” – Palazzo Grassi

From thursday, February 20, to Monday, February 24, 2014, the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi continues to host the cycle of screenings “Archives”, which is an archive of documentary films dedicated to the most significant exhibitions since the 1960s. These documentaries are unique audiovisual witnesses of the history of exhibitions and an important tool for curatorial research.

“Biennale de Paris (1985)”*, 67′

This documentary is the fourth directed by Jef Cornelis and edited by Yves Aupetitallot in the collection “Archives”. It presents the 13th Paris Biennale, one of the greatest exhibitions of the 1980s. It was organized in the Grande Halle de la Villette by an international curatorial staff: Georges Boudaille (France), Kasper König (Germany), Alanna Heiss (United States) and Achille Bonito Oliva (Italy). The documentary retraces the installation of the Biennale, to which many established and emerging artists participated: George Baselitz, Daniel Buren, Richard Deacon, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Bertrand Lavier et Lawrence Weiner.

Thursday, February 20, at 6pm
Screening of the documentary followed by a talk by Yves Aupetitallot and Andrea Viliani, director of the Museo Madre, Naples.
Talk in French with simultaneous Italian translation.

From Friday 21 to Monday 24, February, from 10am to 7pm
Screening of the documentary. Last screening starts at 6pm.
