La XIII Luna – Furini Contemporary Art

The 13th moon, moon without a name, elusive and fickle, mutable and inconstant, mysterious and transient moon.

Outside the limits set by the rule of time, it is a halfway moon, retaining the qualities of the moon that precedes it and anticipating those of the one that follows. Moon of transformation. ‘False moon’ they call it too, or the ‘moon of restless souls’, ‘intruder’ moon, blue moon; weird and rare, a magic moon, the last moon.

In the succession of equinoxes and solstices, the passing of the hours, the days, the months, its arrival interrupts a regular sequence of lunations – perennial cycles of births, deaths and new beginnings – and the incessant alternation of the seasons. It seems to bring disorder and yet only generates its opposite. In fact, through chaos and change, its appearance sustains cosmic order and restores stability and balance, realigning energies in the course of the lunar cycle.

Furini Contemporary is opening a new exhibition space in Arezzo, in the church of the Madonna of the city’s old cathedral, with La XIII Luna (‘The 13th Moon’), a project that includes works by Lupo Borgonovo, Enzo Cucchi, Raphael Hefti, Morten Norbye Halvorsen, Gianni Politi and Jessica Warboys. In close dialogue with the nature of the place and the physical space that houses it, the exhibition explores the passing and the registering of time in elegiac fashion, suggesting the possibility of a different narrative.
