TIME BEING TIME – Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska presents Time Being Time, Contemporary Drawing in Motion, a new group exhibition curated by Björn Hegardt and Miodrag Manojlović.
Movable doesn’t move, but stands still, for if it would move then in every moment it should be and should not be at the same point. (Zeno of Elea born c. 495 bce—died c. 430 bce)
In recent years an increasing amount of artists are experimenting with drawing and animation, using different tools, processes and paradigms. The revival of the medium comes with a renewed interest in issues around time and materiality, in the image and sequences.
With the exhibition Time Being Time we wish to explore the understanding of time in relation to drawing and animation. The idea is to bring together a group of international artists whose works perceive and explore not only our surroundings but also our cognitive activity. We have invited artists from different cultural and social backgrounds, all using drawing and animation as powerful means of artistic expressions.
The slow process of drawing and animation is per se a study of time, capturing the preciousness of the elusive moment. When drawing line, no matter whether it is straight, curved, geometric, or when making a sequence of still images… we are ready to flow in many directions, opening a possibility of meandering through time, allowing comings and goings between the past and the future. Then we are ready to cut, rethink, scribble, collect, cry, demonstrate, drive, piece together, deconstruct, paste, travel, witness, remember, reading, imagine, forget, …yes, then we are ready for a new time being.
