AIRBNB Pavilion Bari – 63rd-77th STEPS

fàlo, in collaboration with 63rd-77th STEPS - Art Project Staircase – presents a performance in the meeting room of the former Post Office in Bari, designed by Roberto Narducci in 1931 for the fascist government. Drawing from community development techniques and methods, the collective will explore the political aporias latent in online communities.

A matineè of stories of Hospitality, Lovebombs and Enemies

Also, Letting Go, and the Paradoxes of Solidarity.
A chat among Connectors who do not fear Difference and Contact.

A breakfast for community development and fictional social contracts, with humanity at its center and community at its core.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Empowerment and consumer choice, public support for private interests, and turning the market as a field for social change. Make it Liveable, Sustainable and Equitable.

Make it a space to play, so we can do more of what we love.

Following the strategies devised by Douglas Atkin, Airbnb Global Head of Community, the performance will consist in a meeting with the local community of airbnb hosts, documentation of which will be exhibited at 63rd-77th STEPS together with a new text. Parallel to the performance, fàlo curates the online exhibition Do More OF What They Love which will be on view at www.63rd77thsteps.com and which consists of videos by four artists who employ the home and its image as a medium in their work.

“Let us say yes to who or what turns up, before any determination, before any anticipation, before any identification, whether or not it has to do with a foreigner, an immigrant, an invited guest, or an unexpected visitor, whether or not the new arrival is the citizen of another country, a human, animal, or divine creature, a living or dead thing, male or female.”

Jacques Derrida, Of Hospitality, 2000

The AIRBNB Pavilion is a project by fàlo, a collective of interior decorators based in London founded and led by architects Fabrizio Ballabio, Alessandro Bava, Luis Ortega Govela and Octave Perrault. The project began with an exhibition during the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale which explored emergent forms of domesticity. The Pavilion tackled the house, the home and today’s life as it is revealed by Airbnb.

63rd-77th STEPS – Art Project Staircase – is a project space for contemporary art founded and run by the artist Fabio Santacroce. The name refers to the final part of a multi-floor staircase (the area between the 63rd and the 77th step) inside a building from the beginning of the XX century in Bari (Italy).
