Taylor McKimens – Bright Lyons
Bright Lyons is pleased to announce TAYLOR McKIMENS, COMMISSIONS BY BRIGHT LYONS 2008 – 2015, an exhibition of paintings from the Bright Lyons collection, as well as commissions over the last seven years, opening tomorrow, Tuesday 3 February from 6-9PM at Bright Lyons in Brooklyn.
This is the first solo showing of work in New York by Taylor McKimens since his solo project SOFT SERVE at Deitch Projects in 2008.
Taylor McKimens and Paul Bright met in New York in 2004 and since then have collaborated consistently, both in NYC and in Bright’s home town of London, Ontario where McKimens also lived in 2008. Bright has commissioned a number of artworks over the years and this show marks the completion of the most ambitious commissions of McKimens’ work to date.
Taylor McKimens hails from Winterhaven, California, a small desert town on the Mexican border and currently lives and works in New York. He has held solo exhibitions at the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, Loyal Gallery in Stockholm, Studio Raffaelli in Trento, Italy, Galerie Zurcher in Paris and Annet Gelink in Amsterdam. His work was included in Panic Room: Selections from the Dakis Joannou Works on Paper Collection in Athens, Greece, 2007, New York Minute at MACRO Museum in Rome and The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Greater New York at PS1 MoMA, as well as in numerous exhibitions in many galleries internationally.
Since the late 90’s, Paul Bright has played the varied roles of gallery owner, collector, dealer, and modern design specialist. Before moving to New York in 2009, he ran a gallery in his hometown of London, Ontario, featuring work from young American and Canadian artists. Along the way, he has amassed a growing collection of contemporary art and modern design, part of which is showcased in his downtown Brooklyn shop/gallery, Bright Lyons.
