Dias & Riedweg at AuditoriumArte in Rome

Fondazione Musica per Roma presents for the first time in Rome the work of the artistic duo Dias & Riedweg. On occasion of the VI Festival Flamenco and in the context of the curatorial project on sound and visual arts One Space/One Sound, the exhibition at AuditoriumArte brings the groups of photographs Peñas de Pena, the single channel video Antonio and the double video installation Cuarto de Cabales together, commissioned to the artists in 2010 by CajaSol for a project on flamenco and contemporary culture, In-ter-va-los.

Invited to spend time in Andalusia, Dias & Riedweg found, specifically in the small city of Jerez de La Frontera, a focus of interest for their work in the last manifestations of traditional Flamenco that rather discretely survive in modest social circles and small unspectacular scenes, in spaces traditionally called as peñas.

Concerned by the fact that they encountered many of these traditional peñas in an atmosphere of nostalgia and almost closure, certain even in abandon, Dias & Riedweg decided to document the spaces of the peñas in the Flamenco barrios of San Miguel and Santiago, in Jerez de la Frontera, focusing on the delicate relations between the nostalgia of their past and the void of their contemporary activities. All this documentation is realized in video and photography, but above all closely with or amongst the music, which builds up this entire context.
