Visit NERO at GRANPALAZZO this weekend where a selection of our publications will be on display and can be purchased. These include brand new releases Jimmie Durham: Sound and Silliness, a book published for the exhibition by Jimmie Durham at MAXXI (5 February to 2 June 2016) as well as the unprecedented Gustav Metzger: Act or Perish! – A Retrospective, the catalogue of the first extensive overview of Gustav Metzger organized in 2015-2016 at the Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun and Kunsthall Oslo and Stiftelsen Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo.

GRANPALAZZO is an exhibition-event involving some of the most interesting, serious, and consistent artists and galleries in the contemporary art scene. And in 2016 it will take place on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29 in a week-end dedicated to contemporary art. The choice of conceiving an independent international fair in an alternative context, distant from a city centre, aims to offer a new and unusual opportunity for a constructive exchange among art professionals, while also addressing a public of art enthusiasts.

The two-day programme includes a rich schedule of performances and special projects that involves Palazzo Rospigliosi as well as various other venues in the town of Zagarolo. In addition to the exhibition-event with the participation of 28 artists – presented by the same number of galleries – the spaces of Palazzo Rospigliosi will be animated by numerous initiatives, all of which will be strictly “live”: performances, educational workshops, a bookshop with the presence of some of the most important publishers on the contemporary scene and, finally, a special prize. During the two days of the event, guests and visitors will witness performances specifically developed by the artists Roxane Borujerdi, Rä di Martino and Reto Pulfer (all of whose work is present in the exhibition) in addition to a special project by Gabriele De Santis.

Another important novelty of this second edition of GRANPALAZZO will be the first edition of the “Premio Claudio,” a prize established by the collector Ettore Alloggia in order to support current artistic production. The “Premio Claudio,” will be awarded to one of the works by the 28 artists involved in GRANPALAZZO 2016, and will then become part of the Alloggia collection.

Two of the most dynamic foundations of contemporary art active in Rome will be present with special performances, intended to establish an even closer connection with the city and its resources. The Fondazione Volume! will present a collective work realized and directed by artist Giuseppe Gallo, while the Nomas Foundation will propose an action by Luigi Mulas Debois characterized by a contamination between art, crafts and the ethics of labour. Among the other subjects involved is smART – polo per l’arte, which will bring to Palazzo Rospigliosi a selection of animated GIFs made by some of the most important international GIF artists, whose work is currently on display in the exhibition Stop and Go.

Ample space will be provided for activities for children, thanks to a collaboration with Wunderbar Projects, which will coordinate an educational workshop introducing children to the latest trends in art, starting from the works on display at Palazzo Rospigliosi.
Artribune, CURA, Mousse and NERO, some of the most popular and influential art magazines in Italy and abroad, will be involved in GRANPALAZZO 2016 presenting their publications and opening a window onto the world of publishing in the field of contemporary art. The online magazine ATP Diary will also conduct interviews and present an overview of the galleries, artists, performances and curators that will be present at the event.

ArtSpace, the leading online platform in the contemporary art market, is the exclusive online partner of GRANPALAZZO 2016. An online preview will be available on the website starting from May 27th.
