Ettore Favini “Nouvelles Flâneries” at CAPAS, Parma

Ettore Favini, Nouvelles Flâneries, work in progress, scagliola, 2018

On Saturday 19 May 2018 a roaming exhibition by the artist Ettore Favini opens in Parma, proposing a new mapping of the Emilian city. The Cultural Association Others presents Nouvelles Flâneries, a project by Ettore Favini that will be displayed in ten different locations around the city of Parma. The exhibition is curated by Valentina Rossi with the support of Fondazione Cariparma and Comune di Parma.

The artist has realised ten concrete slabs (scagliola carpigiana), which will be hanging on the facade of some historical buildings, as result of Favini’s long-term research at the State Archive and the Palatine Library.

Favini has selected memories of travelers, such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Carlo Goldoni, Antonio Fogazzaro, Mario Luzi, Germaine Beaumont, Curzio Malaparte, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Giovanni Guareschi, Thomas Gray and Marcel Proust, who came to Parma and wrote about the city, throughout history.

Ettore Favini’s research is often related to the urban landscape and the concept of citizenship. In his artistic process Favini involves citizens in order to give life to new collective narratives. Nouvelles Flâneries is a tribute to Parma. The slabs will be donated to the residents of the palaces, as the concept of “gift” is a recurring part of the artist’s modus operandi.

Nouvelles Flâneries is an exhibition and a workshop realised in March 2018 at CAPAS, Center of Performing Art at the University of Parma with contributions by Valentina Rossi, Davide Papotti, Marco Scotti, and Anna Zinelli. The monitoring was carried out by Cristina Zerbini from the Department of Economics at the University of Parma.

The opening will take place on Saturday, 19 May 2018 at 4pm at CAPAS, at the headquarters of the University of Parma (Vicolo Grossardi, 4) with the participation of the president of the Fondazione Cariparma, Prof. Gino Gabriel, and the councillor for Culture of the municipality of Parma Michele Guerra, director of Capas Prof. Luigi Allegri, the artist Ettore Falconer and the curator Valentina Rossi. After the presentation the artist will take the audience for a small tour through the various locations of the works. The evening will continue with music by DJ Spanna and David Casini, at the space of BDC Catalog in Borgo delle colonne 28.

The mapping of the artworks will be published on the local newspaper the same day of the opening, and will be available as digital version on the Cultural Association Others website.
