The exhibition A CUF FUL SKUL opens on Thursday 10 May at the Milan branch of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma. The show presents a selection of works from the current Swiss art scene, by exploring its differences and common traits. During the evening there will be a performance of artists Marie Villemin and Marie Léa Zwahlen (8.00 p.m.) followed by music and projections by Niels Wehrspann (Socialiste) (9.00 p.m. to midnight).

The exhibition is the first appointment of Bureau for Art Nerds curated by Valentina Sansone, a program of events (two exhibitions and five events, through to June 26, 2012) at the Milan branch of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma and in public and self-run spaces around the city, that activates new networks for contemporary art and experiments non-happening formats.

A CUF FUL SKUL is the anagram of Fluck | Paulus, started in Fribourg in 2010. The two founders, Léa Fluck and Lauris Paulus, invited 13 artists and curators from various parts of Switzerland: Kim Seob Boninsegni; Philippe Daerendinger; Renaud Loda and Sebastien Verdon; Tobias Madison and Kaspar Müller; Fabian Marti; Annina Matter; Lauris Paulus; Valentina Stieger; Niels Wehrspann; Marie Villemin and Marie Léa Zwahlen. This exhibition brings together young artists, curators and critics coming from all parts of Switzerland. Almost all of them are or have been involved in collective-curatorial projects besides their own artistic practice.

The aim of the exhibition is to trace to what extent the experiences gained in the context of the collectives have influenced the individual work of each artist through the spirit of aggregation and the energetic creation of an exchange: the single works that are exhibited represent the artists, but together they become a device that mirrors widespread thoughts and attitudes. The reality of the collectives or rather the desire to be part of a shared network describes a generalized tendency not only in Switzerland, that represents the often low budget alternative to a conventional system in the context of which the work of the curators and the critics is separate from that of the artists.
