Fucking Good Art

NERO, in collaboration with Nosadella.due and Nomas Foundation, presents the publication Italian Conversations – Art in the age of Berlusconi by Fucking Good Art (Rob Hamelijnck e Nienke Terpsma), a reflection, in retrospect, on the results of an itinerant residency that the artists held in Italy in 2011, in which they analyzed the country’s cultural scene with an external glance.

Two years from their research, new spaces, practices and approaches redraw the italian cultural map in relation to the ever changing European political and economical order. Rob and Nienke ended their voyage finding out that despite everything, Italy was still able to produce culture. In the course of this reunion, we would like to address what happened since then, as well as attempting to understand what remains and what disappears , while imagining a system that is sustainable in times of global crisis.

Fucking Good Art is an artist’s duo that focuses on new modalities of aesthetic journalism, on counter cultures and sub culture, to forms of self organisation and activism as models beyond the art market.

Fucking Good Art: Italia. Issue #28 includes conversations with artists, curators, writers and gallerists, artists’ contributions and critical essays, and is part of an editorial project through which Fucking Good Art analyses since 2003 arts in the context of different cities and countries. Fucking Good Art aims at mapping the art system as subject and object of a general redefinition of European cultural politics. After Rotterdam, Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Copenhagen, Riga, Tblisi, Sao Paulo, Switzerland, the Dutch artists conducted a research of the Italian cultural scene that aims at representing a critical guide of contemporary art in the country as well as a manual presenting forms of work in times of crises – independent projects, self organization, and public private financing models – suggesting that contemporary is reinventing new forms of economical and socio-cultural support.

Italian Conversations – Art in the age of Berlusconi is a project by Fucking Good Art commissioned by Nomas Foundation, published by NERO, Rome and post editions, Rotterdam. Supported by Fonds BKVB, Mondriaan Foundation, Ambasciata del Regno dei Paesi Bassi (Roma), Parc Saint Leger-Centre d’Art Contemporain in France. In collaboration with Careof and O’, Milan; Nosadella.due, Bologna; Progetto Diogene, Turin; Archiviazioni, Lecce; Fondazione Morra Greco, Naples; Francesco Pantaleone Arte Contemporanea, Palermo.
